Pup Care
Preparing Your Home
Before your pup arrives, make sure your home is safe and ready:
• Pup-Proofing: Remove any small objects, toxic plants, or hazardous items that a curious puppy might chew on or swallow. Ensure electrical cords are out of reach.
• Designated Space: Set up a comfortable, quiet area for your pup to sleep and rest. A crate or a pup pen is ideal for providing a secure space.
• Supplies: Stock up on essential supplies like food and water bowls, pup food, a collar and leash, toys, and grooming tools.

Feeding & Nutrition
Proper nutrition is key to your pup’s growth and development:
• Pup Food: We recommend feeding high-quality pup food formulated for small breeds. Preferably Purina Pro Plan for Puppy. Follow the feeding guidelines on the packaging or consult your veterinarian for specific recommendations.
• Feeding Schedule: Pups typically need to eat 3-4 times a day. Establish a regular feeding schedule to help your pup develop good eating habits.
• Water: Always have fresh water available for your pup.

Health & Vet Care

Regular veterinary care is crucial to keeping your pup healthy:
• Vaccinations: Your pup will come with up-to-date vaccinations, but it’s important to continue with their vaccination schedule. Consult your veterinarian to plan the next rounds of shots.
• Deworming: Pups are typically dewormed before going to their new homes, but follow-up treatments may be necessary.
• Regular Checkups: Schedule a vet appointment shortly after bringing your pup home to establish a health baseline and discuss any questions you might have.
• Flea and Tick Prevention: Discuss flea and tick prevention options with your veterinarian to keep your pup protected.
Training & Socialization
Early training and socialization are essential for a well-behaved and confident dog:
• House Training: Be patient and consistent when house training your pup. Regular bathroom breaks, especially after meals and naps, will help establish a routine.
• Basic Commands: Start with simple commands like “sit,” “stay,” and “come.” Use positive reinforcement with treats and praise to encourage good behavior.
• Socialization: Expose your pup to different people, environments, and other pets to help them develop social skills. This will prevent fearfulness and aggression as they grow.

Oral Hygiene

Maintaining good oral hygiene is crucial for your pup’s overall health:
• Brushing: Begin brushing your pup’s teeth early to help them get used to the process. Use a toothbrush and toothpaste specifically designed for dogs. Regular brushing helps prevent plaque buildup and dental issues.
• Dental Chews and Toys: Provide dental chews and toys that help clean your pup’s teeth and massage their gums. These can also reduce plaque and tartar.
• Regular Checkups: During vet visits, have your pup’s teeth and gums checked to catch any potential dental issues early. Your vet can offer advice on maintaining good oral health.
Exercise & Playtime
Pups are full of energy and need regular exercise:
• Playtime: Provide plenty of toys and engage in interactive play to stimulate your pup’s mind and body.
• Walks: Short, frequent walks are ideal for pups. As they grow, you can gradually increase the length and intensity of their walks.
• Mental Stimulation: Puzzle toys and training exercises can help keep your pup mentally engaged.
